Zleepy Deep Sleep Pillow Spray, reviewed: three weeks on our pillows

A lavender-and-vetiver spray that promises a faster drop-off. We used it for 21 consecutive nights across three sleepers, and washed the bedding twice in between.

It will not knock you out, and anything claiming otherwise is selling you something. What it does do, reliably, is make the bed smell like the end of the day, and that turned out to be worth more than we expected.

In brief

What we liked

Real lavender and vetiver, with no synthetic musk in the ingredients list.

Two of three sleepers fell asleep noticeably faster in week two.

A 100ml bottle genuinely lasted us the best part of two months.

What we did not

The scent has largely gone by the small hours, so do not expect it to last the night.

£14.99 is a fair bit for something you spray twice and forget.

How we tested it

We bought two bottles at full price and put one in each of two households. The rule was simple: three sprays on the pillow, fifteen minutes before getting into bed, every night for three weeks, with no other changes to the bedtime routine. Bedding was washed twice during the test so we could see how the spray behaved on fresh cotton as well as on a pillowcase four nights old.

Living with it

The first thing to say is that the scent is good. Properly good: herbal rather than sweet, closer to a garden at dusk than to the sugary lavender you get in cheaper sprays. It sits on the pillow for perhaps ninety minutes before fading to something faint, and it is gone by two in the morning.

Whether it makes you sleep is a harder question. Two of our three sleepers reported dropping off faster by the second week. The third noticed nothing at all. That is roughly what the research on scent and sleep would predict, and we would treat it as a helpful part of a wind-down routine rather than a sedative.

It is not a sleeping pill. It is a signal to your brain that the day is finished, and that turns out to be a useful thing to own.

Should you buy it?

If you already have a wind-down routine and want something pleasant to anchor it, yes. If you are hoping to fix a real sleep problem with a bottle, no, and no spray on the market will do that. At £14.99 for two months it is a small, well-made luxury rather than a solution, and we are comfortable recommending it on that basis.
